Strictly Come Dancing: Now is the time to find Anton du Beke a serious challenger for the Glitterball Trophy
Like him or loathe him, Anton du Beke is part of the Strictly furniture and always brings something a little different to the BBC dance competition.
So, is it time for the Strictly bosses to pair him with a celebrity that might have a chance of making it past the Blackpool week?
It is usually the case that Anton is partnered with one of the elder celebs on the list, which can often mean that he has someone that might not be at the peak of their dance capabilities.
A lot of people have argued on social media that as the pro, Anton should lift these dance first-timers to a level they never thought capable of.
He is often hindered though by getting a partner that is far behind the curve that he never stands a chance of getting near to winning the Glitterball Trophy.
He's a Strictly legend and needs someone to help showcase his talent
It feels that the series will sorely miss Anton this time around after the judges and viewers alike condemn Susannah Constantine's dancing to the dumper.
Apart from Katie Derham, who proved to be a surprise package, Anton normally has someone so stiff and wooden that a skilled carpenter would struggle to make something decent out of them.
Every now and then his endeavours capture the public's imagination, like the time he dragged Judy Murray deep into the competition.
It is usually the case though that it is a cameo with a few cheery jibes at the judges before a swift goodbye.
For 2019 though, it would be great if the Strictly let Anton loose and let viewers admire the talents he has by pairing him with someone that might have a bit about them.
Viewers may have been upset with his gurning during his Foxtrot with Susannah but there are times when you have to laugh at the situation you find yourself in.
Anton is a Strictly legend and it would be fitting for someone in such a position to be given a chance to showcase his talents.
My loves, some people are reporting I'm quitting the show. Absolute rubbish! I'm NEVER quitting. Whether they want me or not, I'm never going! 😄 Love you all and love @bbcstrictly! #BBCstrictly— Anton Du Beke (@TheAntonDuBeke) October 1, 2018
Anton has tweeted that he's going nowhere, so do the decent thing and stop lumbering him with the 'joke' turn each year.
